Takeovers — Conduct of business regulation — Investment business — Market abuse — Market Abuse Directive (MAD) — Regulated activities

Abstract: This chapter focuses on Article 1 of the Market Abuse Regulation. Article 1 defines the subject matter of the Market Abuse Regulation. More specifically, the subject matter tackled by the Market Abuse Regulation pertains to the establishment of a common regulatory framework, the establishment of measures to prevent market abuse to ensure the integrity of the financial market in the Union, and of the enhancement of investor protection and confidence. After briefly tracing the historical development of the explicit definition of the subject matter of the Market Abuse Regulation, the chapter turns to related subjects outside the subject matter of the Market Abuse Regulation. These include takeover law, competition law, the law of unfair business practices, accounting law, and the law of financial reporting, as well as other European regulations on market abuse.
